White Student Dons Blackface in Disturbing Black History Video

A white student at Brigham Young University in Utah put together a video in which he dons himself in blackface makeup and interviews a series of students, asking them questions about Black History Month.
The video, which appears on YouTube and was made by Brigham Young student Dave Ackerman, makes clear that few students — either Black or white — seem to know anything about Black history, including what month it is celebrated and more than one historical figure.
When asked what month Black history is celebrated, few knew that it was February. When asked to name some important figures in Black history, most answered with the name Martin Luther King. Some responded naming Malcolm X.
But when asked about the contributions of Malcolm X, there was a litany of inaccurate information. “Wasn’t he the head of the Black Panthers?” one student asked. Another simply said, “He was, like, bad.”
When asked how they celebrated Black History Month, one white student stated: “Usually, what we do is we love our fried chicken and we go with some grape juice.”
At one point, Ackerman asks a series of students: “Do you think a Black guy has an advantage when it comes to dating over a white guy?” One white student responded, “I can think of some girls who have jungle fever.”
