Cardi B Reflects on Life After Divorce and Ongoing Tension With Offset
Cardi B is done carrying old baggage. Just a day away from dropping her highly anticipated sophomore album, Am I The Drama?, the Grammy Award-winning artist opened up about her messy split from Offset and made it clear that her focus is on music, motherhood, and moving forward.
In the second half of her sit-down with Gayle King on “CBS Mornings,” Cardi admitted she’s over the constant chatter about her past relationship. “I filed for divorce a year ago,” she reminded. “That should be very clear. I don’t deal with that, I don’t mess with that, I don’t have no contact with that.”
The divorce, first made public last summer, still hasn’t been finalized. When Gayle pointed out some lyrics from her new track “Man of Your Word,” Cardi opened up about her divorce. Reflecting on her marriage, she shared, “I just wish he was a better person, but it is what it is. Be a better person for your kids.”
Cardi also addressed the tension in co-parenting, saying she’s hopeful things can change, but admitting it’s not where they are now. “I don’t really have hate in my heart anymore,” she explained. “I think he has some type of hate in his heart right now. I don’t know how long that’s gonna take for him, but that’s always been my wish. I get along with everybody that I dated. If we all move on, there shouldn’t be no animosity.”
She added that she wants to be able to celebrate milestones with Offset for the sake of their three kids, but right now it feels impossible. “We should be able to ask each other questions. We should be able to be like, ‘Hey, look what one of the kids just did,’ ‘Look at this,’ ‘Look at the report card.’ We should be able to celebrate, but it’s not about the kids. One thing I’m learning is it’s not about the kids.”
