Simone Biles Becomes the Most Decorated Gymnast of All Time

Biles won the individual all-around title at the world championships on Friday.

Simone Biles netted her 21st gold medal at the world gymnastics championships in Antwerp, Belgium on Friday (Oct. 6), making her the most decorated gymnast of all time with 34 championship medals.

Simone Biles Has Triumphant Return, Winning First Gymnastics Contest In 2 Years

Friday’s win marked the sixth time that Biles, 26, won the individual all-around title, continuing a dominant run in her return to competition following a two-year break. She scored 58.399 points for the gold, besting defending champion Rebeca Andrade of Brazil, who took home the silver. Biles’ U.S. teammate Shilese Jones took home the bronze.

Biles also led the U.S. women’s gymnastics team to the world championship title Wednesday (Oct. 4). Her run in Antwerp is a throwback to when she won her very first all-around world title in the city as a 16-year-old in 2013.

Biles took a break from the sport during the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. At the time, she said she was plagued with a mental block called “the twisties” that disoriented her while performing. She removed herself from competition to focus on her mental health.

Her new husband, Green Bay Packers’ strong safety Jonathan Owens, celebrated Biles’ win from afar this week.
