'Send the Feds to End Institutional Racism,' People Went Off on Trump for Disrespectful Tweet About Chicago 'Carnage'

Many are calling him out for ignoring cities with higher murder rates.
  • Last night, President Trump sent out a threatening Tweet to the entire city of Chicago regarding gun violence

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said that federal agencies including the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives already do help the city. However, he has also said that more can be done.

“There’s a lot the federal government can do,” Emanuel said, citing gun control. “And also, fundamentally, in my view, also help fund additional police officers. Over the years the federal government’s stepped back their resources, which we have stepped up. The federal government can be a partner, and to be honest they haven’t been for decades.”

Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said in a statement that "the Chicago Police Department is more than willing to work with the federal government to build on our partnerships with DOJ, FBI, DEA and ATF and boost federal prosecution rates for gun crimes in Chicago."

  • Immediately after Trump sent the Tweet, people called him out for ignoring the root of gun violence in many cities

  • Additionally, many pointed out that had he done some research, he would see that other cities in the nation have higher per capita murder rates

  • Many also pointed out that gun violence is not just a problem for the inner cities

  • The president's tweet is problematic because he does not explain what kind of federal action will be taken

During a White House briefing, Sean Spicer said that the president plans to use many federal resources to give aid to Chicago, but he was not able to go into detail.

  • All in all, most people want Trump to act more like a president for everyone and stop tweeting unhelpful threats
