Issa Vibe! Rihanna Requested To Have Faux Locs In Her New Movie Role, And Here's Why
Ocean’s 8 debuts in theaters on June 8, and we are hella excited to see our girl Rihanna take over the big screen!
It was back in 2016 when RiRi was first spotted rocking faux locs, and while some believed it was just the Barbadian-born beauty switching up her hair, we now know it was for her role as the hacker, Nine Ball.
So what's the story behind the faux loc look? According to her longtime hairstylist Yusef Williams, it was all Rih's choice!
As you already know, Bad Gal RiRi has a mega influence on the beauty industry with her inclusive beauty line, Fenty Beauty, so it only made sense that when the Bajan beauty requested to have faux locs in effort to give her character a Caribbean vibe, those in charge of the movie gave her the green light of approval!
“We thought it would be strong,” Yusef Williams told Refinery29. “Her locs would maintain that tie to Africa. She'd keep her accent. She wasn't just going to be some American girl in this movie. Nine Ball is still a Caribbean girl that just happens to be in America.”
"All in all, the locs are just really badass," he continued. "I couldn't imagine her character without them."
*sigh* Just another reason Rihanna is many people's spirit animal.
Another win for #blackgirlmagic!
