Detroit’s Own Big Sean Named Pistons’ Creative Director of Global Experience

The Detroit native takes on an expanded position focused on global fan growth, community engagement, and showcasing the city’s creative identity worldwide.

Big Sean is taking his white buffs from the block to the boardroom after being named the Detroit Pistons’ Creative Director of Global Experience on Sunday (December 21). The expanded role was created to deepen the organization’s commitment to global fan growth, cultural connection, and innovation—continuing to connect basketball, music, fashion, and art rooted in Detroit’s voice, talent, and identity.

The multi-platinum hip-hop star will work alongside the Pistons on future global fan development and community engagement efforts, using his platform and hometown pride to usher in new audiences worldwide. In celebration of World Basketball Day, the Pistons and Big Sean also launched a new global initiative titled Creatives Across Continents, inviting cultural tastemakers, designers, and artists from around the world to create original work inspired by Detroit Basketball.

The initiative aims to spotlight creativity on a global scale while elevating Detroit’s innovative legacy internationally. Selected participants will receive a creative prompt directly from Sean and develop designs for a collaborative retail collection projected to launch in 2026.

Pistons EVP and Chief Marketing Officer Alicia Jefferys shared her excitement for the partnership. “Big Sean’s influence reaches far beyond music—he’s a global creative visionary who brings Detroit wherever he goes,” she said. “As Creative Director of Global Experience, he brings authenticity, reach, and imagination to the Pistons brand. Creatives Across Continents is the next step in introducing Detroit Basketball to the world, and we couldn’t imagine a better partner to lead that vision.”

Big Sean’s mainstream success has long put eyes on Detroit’s culture, fashion, and creativity across every artistic lane. From the iconic Cartier buffs to Helluva beats, and even the city’s lingo, Detroit’s influence has been respected, adopted, and replicated worldwide.

“It’s been an honor to serve the Pistons community, and stepping into this expanded role as Creative Director of Global Experience allows me to do it on an even bigger scale,” Sean said. “Detroit has always been rich with talent and culture, and my mission is to keep opening doors and hiring our city’s creatives to shine alongside one of the most iconic franchises in sports.
