Kandi Burruss Calls ‘Othello’ ‘Phenomenal’ Despite Tony Awards Snub

Burruss says she was “blown away” by the Broadway production, which she co-produced with her husband, Todd Tucker.

Kandi Burruss spoke out in defense of her latest co-produced Broadway play, “Othello.”

While the production, which stars Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal, is the highest-grossing Broadway play of all time, it received zero 2025 Tony Awards nominations, as announced on Thursday, May 1. Washington and Gyllenhaal were also shut out of performance categories. After the nominations were announced, Burruss, who co-produced “Othello” with her husband, Todd Tucker, posted on Instagram and expressed her disappointment about the decision.

“Well y’all… Othello didn’t get the Tony nomination,” she captioned the post. “Of course I’m disappointed, but I’m still beyond proud to be part of this phenomenal production. Every time I watch our cast, I’m blown away and inspired.”

Burruss went on to say that Washington and Gyllenhaal delivered a performance “masterclass” that was “unforgettable.”

While Burruss congratulated the Tony nominees, she’s “focused on what’s next,” meaning that she’s not “giving up on the dream” of getting an award. To anyone chasing a dream — don’t let a ‘no’ stop your yes,” she concluded. “The journey continues.…”

During the “Othello” previews, Burruss expressed hopes for the show to land Tony nominations. Burruss was previously nominated as a producer on the 2022 revival of “The Piano Lesson,” which starred Washington’s oldest son, John David Washington.
