Norman Baker Gets Real About ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ Finale

“Honestly that’s above me. It’s above me now,” the longtime producer said.

The controversial ending of Wendy Williams’ show caused longtime fans to question why things went the way they did. And with the subject still trending, the series producer Norman Baker is getting candid about the final days and its finale episode.

“How do you feel when people say they hated the way the show ended and felt like [Wendy] didn’t get the tribute she deserved,” asked host Carlos King on his Reality with the King podcast.

Norman responded: “Honestly that’s above me. It’s above me now.”

The daytime producer would go on to explain the process behind how the show’s finale episode, which included a video tribute, came to be.

“I actually don’t know what the process was, or I don’t know anything about it honestly. There were internal talks about what we were going to do, and how we were going to do it. But those are decisions [that] are made above us.

He would conclude with: “I wasn’t really involved in those talks, so I don’t really know exactly how that happened.”

The show’s production company, Debmar-Mercury, publicly feuded with the Radio Hall of Fame inductee for months following her extended vacation due to health concerns. By the time Williams expressed desire and readiness to return to television, Debmar-Mercury had gone in a different direction, announcing Sherri Shepherd, who was the last and longest guest host for The Wendy Williams Show during her time away, would be hosting her own show in Wendy’s former time slot.

Despite all the drama, Norman expressed his pride pegged to what was accomplished with the show. “I felt like what we did was from the heart, and it was like good. And it was you know what we were supposed to do,” he said. “There’s actually no way to end that show. There’s no sufficient way to encapsulate what we feel in our hearts for her anyway. No matter what I do for the rest of my career, I know I was a part of something great for 12 years.”

Wendy has already begun to move on, taking to her Instagram page to promote her upcoming podcast, The Wendy Experience Podcast.

At this time there is no official launch date for the media personality’s next talk show project.
