Following the backlash of Chicago rapper Vic Mensa’s choice words on slain Miami rapper XXXTentacion and his domestic abuse allegations, a newly-obtained audio recording is finally putting the controversy to rest.

Pitchfork unveiled the audio on Wednesday (October 24) where X, real name Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, can first be heard discussing the physical domestic attacks on his ex-girlfriend upon cheating suspicions. He begins by stating that he mistakenly placed his “source of happiness in another person,” referencing his then-girlfriend. “But she fell through on every occasion until now,” he said. “Until I started f**king her up, bruh. But I started f**king her up because she made one mistake. And from there, the whole cycle went down.” X then went on to say that she feared for her life, and in a terrifying twist, he understood why as well. “You know what I do to people.” Though it is not heard in the provided clip from Pitchfork, the site states that X also stated, “I will kill that b**ch if she play with me.”

The “SAD!” rapper later discussed how his other heinous attacks even made it to Miami New Times after going on a stabbing rampage in Deerfield Beach, Florida. X said they initially reported only three stabbing victims but confirmed in the audio that it was actually eight people he assaulted. Piercing more fear into his then-girlfriend, he said that she saw him in the aftermath of the attacks as well. “She seen when I came back,” he said. “Had a brand new laptop. No tears on my face, no remorse. I just knew I was going to jail. She know. So she’s scared. She thinks I’m going to kill her.”

Up until his June 2018 death, X clung to his innocence against domestic abuse charges by the Miami-Dade County state’s attorney’s office, which included aggravated battery of a pregnant victim, domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment, witness tampering and more. Fans defended X against the allegations (most recently against Vic Mensa) with their last breath following his passing as well. But now that Pitchfork has officially released the formerly-private audio, which the site states is actually 27 minutes long, X fans are jumping back to shield the 20-year-old rapper’s legacy. And they’re up against anti-X hip-hop fans, however, who held him accountable for the accusations the entire time.
