The New Jersey rapper released the song for the holidays while in jail awaiting sentencing on drug charges

Fetty Wap just scored a viral hit this holiday season with a song called “Sweet Yamz.” Charlie Wilson recorded himself singing it on TikTok, Snoop Dogg called it the song of the year, according to NJ.com. But, the artist who made it is currently facing five-to-nine years in prison after pleading guilty to federal drug charges.

“I’m very grateful for my fans and for my community because I wouldn’t be where I am without them,” Fetty said in a statement for his “Sweet Yamz” Thanksgiving giveaway. “Giving back, especially in my hometown, is very important to me no matter what the circumstances are. Even though I can’t be there in person, shout-out to every single one of my fans, supporters, and everyone that’s still rocking with me!”

Fetty Wap scored a huge hit with “Trap Queen” in 2015. The song hit #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. His new viral hit contains a sample of the R&B song, “Yamz” by Masego and Devin Morrison.

In November 2021, the rapper was arrested before taking the stage at the Rolling Loud Festival in New York. He was one of six people charged in a conspiracy to distribute and possess controlled substances and was named as part of a drug ring that distributed heroin, cocaine, fentanyl, and crack in New Jersey and Long Island.

His bond was revoked and he was locked up in August of this year after allegedly making threats and showing someone a gun on a FaceTime call. He is currently awaiting sentencing.
