This Week in Good Black News: Rock Hall Flowers, Delta Sisterhood, and WNBA History
Black excellence has CVS-long receipts this week!
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s 2026 class gave major love to Black music legends, T.I.’s oldest daughter went full Greek in Atlanta, Olandria Carthen turned Coachella into a Barbie moment, and the WNBA continued its historic money run with Brittney Griner and A’ja Wilson both cashing in.
Here’s the good Black news that happened this week!
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s 2026 class is packed with Black artists who light up stages worldwide, including Sade, Luther Vandross, Wu-Tang Clan, Celia Cruz, Fela Kuti, Queen Latifah, and MC Lyte. Obviously, Black artists don’t just contribute to music history, they build it.
Next up, the yard has officially been stomped! T.I.’s daughter Deyjah Harris officially crossed into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. through Clark Atlanta University’s Sigma Chapter, and the moment came with a touching family tribute. Her line name, “Precious Heir,” honored her late aunt, Antoinette “Precious” Harris, making the celebration feel even more personal.
Olandria Carthen was all over Coachella Weekend 1, serving “Bama Barbie” energy as the face of Barbie’s first-ever festival activation. She became the face of Mattel’s “You Can Be Any Barbie” campaign at the desert pop-up.
Over on the court, Brittney Griner is headed to Connecticut on a one-year deal reportedly worth seven figures, making her the second player to cross the $1 million-per-season threshold under the WNBA’s new CBA. This significant deal is part of the league’s new compensation era.
One’s not enough, we need two! A’ja Wilson re-signed with the Las Vegas Aces on a three-year, $5 million supermax contract that is fully guaranteed and the largest in WNBA history to date. The women of the WNBA are actively changing the game!
That is what we call a good week!
