Sen. Tim Scott Expected To Announce 2024 Presidential Bid Decision

The South Carolina Republican is making all the moves that indicate a White House run.

South Carolina U.S. Sen. Tim Scott just dropped another hint that he’s ready to jump into the 2024 GOP presidential primary, this time saying he’s got a big announcement coming soon.

The Associated Press reports that Scott told a crowd of supporters gathered Sunday (April 30) at a town hall meeting in downtown Charleston that he would reveal his decision on May 22.

“It is time to make the final step,” Scott said, as the room erupted in cheers for the 57-year-old lawmaker who is the Senate’s only Black Republican, adding, “We will have a major announcement.”

Scott previously dropped other hints of a White House run. In March, he offered his vision for America while headlining the closing dinner of the Club for Growth’s donor retreat, as news also emerged that he began hiring staff and was pursuing potential donors.

Next, Scott released a video April 12 announcing the launch of his presidential exploratory committee, vowing to "never back down in defense of the conservative values that make America exceptional.”

By the way, a film crew was present Sunday to gather “content,” possibly for videos of his campaign launch announcement or for ads.

GOP Sen. Tim Scott Announces Presidential Exploratory Committee, Accuses Democrats Of ‘Weaponizing Race’

If Scott decides to jump into the GOP nomination race, he must compete against Republican Party leader former President Donald Trump who continues to have solid support from the base despite his legal troubles. The announced candidates include former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson and tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.

Meanwhile, GOP heavyweight Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis reportedly intends to run for president, as former Vice President Mike Pence could also join the race.

Scott’s video offers a peek at his likely campaign message. He threw red meat to the base, saying, "Joe Biden and the radical left have chosen a culture of grievance over greatness. They're promoting victimhood instead of personal responsibility and they're indoctrinating our children to believe we live in an evil country. And all too often, when they get called out for their failures, they weaponize race to divide us, to hold onto their power.”

He already has a campaign war chest of at least $22 million to seek the nomination, Bloomberg News reported last month, citing a Federal Election Commission filing. Scott converted funds from his Senate campaign to his presidential exploratory committee.

Scott also hired former Republican Colorado Sen. Cory Gardner and political operative Rob Collins to lead his super PAC, Opportunity Matters Fund Action, according to Fox News. Launched in September, the super PAC has raised more than $17 million.
