    Just in time for the unofficial start of summer, The Little Mermaid opens this Friday and stars Halle Bailey. The live-action flick is available only in theaters. 

  2. 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse' (June 2)

    This animated version of Spidey stars Shameik Moore as Miles Morales/Spider-Man. The film also includes Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya and Brian Tyree Henry. This is another one that can only be seen in theaters. 

  3. 'Transformers: Rise of the Beasts' (June 9)

    Arguably, the most diverse installment of the Transformers franchise. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts stars Dominique Fishback, Tobe Nwigwe and the phenomenal Colman Domingo. Only in theaters June 9.

  4. 'The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster' (June 9)

    The directorial debut of Bomani J. Story, this highly anticipated horror flick features rising stars Laya DeLeon Hayes, Chad L. Coleman, and Denzel Whitaker. The movie will be in select theaters, on Digital and On Demand June 9.

  5. 'The Blackening' (June 16)

    Directed by Tim Story, this comedy-horror film is expected to blow up social media. The cast includes Grace Byers, Jermaine Fowler, Jay Pharoah, and Yvonne Orji of Insecure fame. A fresh take on horror from a Black perspective, only in theaters June 16.

  6. 'The Perfect Find' (June 23)

    After being fired from her job, Jenna’s (Gabrielle Union) fashion career comeback hits a snag when she falls for a charming, much younger coworker (Keith Powers) — who happens to be her boss’s son. Based on the book by Tia Williams, The Perfect Find is directed by Numa Perrier and also stars Aisha Hinds, D.B. Woodside, Gina Torres and La La Anthony.

  7. 'Survival of the Thickest' (July 13)

    Mavis Beaumont is proudly thick, newly single and ready to take over the world as an aspiring stylist. Inspired by Michelle Buteau's hilarious memoir, Survival of the Thickest comes to Netflix July 13th.

  8. 'Barbie' (July 21)

    Barbie isn't necessarily the best example of diversity. However, we are supporting because of we are rooting for everyone Black... the live-action movie Barbie includes Issa Rae as President Barbie and hits theaters July 21. 

  9. 'They Cloned Tyrone' (July 21)

    John Boyega and Jamie Foxx! Does it get any better? This science fiction comedy mystery is definitely going to be a must-see this summer. For this one, you don't have to leave your home -- They Cloned Tyrone is exclusively on Netflix July 21. 

  10. 'Haunted Mansion' (July 28)

    Directed by Justin Simien, LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish and Rosario Dawson star in this supernatural horror comedy based on the famous Disney ride. Haunted Mansion is in theaters July 28.

  11. 'Talk to Me' (July 28)

    Starring the up and coming Sophie Wilde, an Australian actress, Talk To Me is going to introduce Wilde to American audiences. The indie film opens in select cities on July 28.

  12. 'The Last Voyage of the Demeter' (August 11)

    Corey Hawkins, best known for playing Dr. Dre in Straight Outta Compton, stars in this reimagination of Dracula. You can catch this in theaters on August 11.
