Kid 'N Play's Christopher Reid Apologizes For Offensive Colin Kaepernick Impersonation

His "joke" fell flat.

Christopher Reid of the hip hop duo Kid 'n Play recently found himself in hot water after participating in a sketch showing him parodying Colin Kaepernick, and since being dragged to hell for his involvement, he has taken to social media to clear his name and solidify his stance on the issue.

In the polarizing photo, which has since gone viral, Reid rocked a fake afro and the athlete's football jersey while lifting his fist in the air, imitating the Black Power gesture.

The image was posted by Jason Whitlock, who became notorious for criticizing Kaepernick's political protests against police brutality, and many found this image to be Reid's co-sign of Whitlock's sentiments and opinions.

The problematic image that started it all can be seen, below:

Reid, in response to the massive backlash, posted a collage to Facebook, which included photos of himself in several "pro-Black" political situations, including him standing beside Trayvon Martin's mother Sybrina Fulton and another of him wearing a "Kanye for President" T-shirt.

In the accompanying lengthy text, he explained that the "skit and photo were not meant to disrespect Colin's message or political stance. Rather, we wanted to spoof the media's treatment of him and the circus that has been created."

Addressing Whitlock's known negative opinion of the athlete's philosohpy, he acknowledged that "Whitlock has been a vocal critic of Colin so the optics of the photO have got me looking crazy," but stressed that he stands with Kaepernick against police brutality.

"Moving forward, I recognize the danger of optics without proper explanation — people race to their own conclusions, good and bad," he continued. "I also have to accept my part in this controversy — the fact that my rep was taking hits was shocking at first — but I've come to a healthy understanding of how some people were dismayed by what went down."
