Hip-Hop Is Boycotting Sweden After ASAP Rocky’s Arrest

The country is now “officially outside of the culture.”

The hip-hop community is rallying around A$AP Rocky, who is currently being detained in Sweden after the rapper and three others were arrested in connection to a street brawl that happened in Stockholm. So far, the Swedish authorities are holding Rocky under lock and key for two weeks as police investigate the incident.

  • In the days immediately following his arrest, a wellspring of support from fans and artists has flowed in for Rocky. On Saturday, Travis Scott joined the call for Rocky's freedom while on stage at the Wireless Festival — where Rocky was also slated to perform.

  • Now, hip-hop’s heavyweights are taking things a step further, calling for a boycott of Sweden in protest of Rocky’s treatment. On Tuesday (July 9), Tyler the Creator pledged that he will no longer perform in the Scandinavian country.

Shortly after, Schoolboy Q threw his support behind Tyler, writing “I’m not goin nomo eitHer….#FLACKO.” Within a few hours, T.I. co-signed the movement as well, declaring an official boycott against Sweden on behalf of the hip-hop community.
“There it is... Sweden’s now officially outside of the culture on the NO GO list!!!

Until they #FreeFlacko It’s UP!!!!,” he proclaimed on Instagram.

  • Very little information about the case has been made available to the public, with Swedish authorities keeping a tight lid on anything getting out to the press. Concern grew for the 30-year-old rapper after reports surfaced that he could possibly be facing a 6-year stint in jail if the prosecutors do move forward with charging him.

News surfaced this week that the 30-year-old rapper's human rights are possibly being violated when TMZ reported that he’s being denied the right to speak with U.S officials without supervision.
