Cynthia Erivo to Reprise Her Role As Elphaba In Live NBC ‘Wicked’ Special
Cynthia Erivo will make her return as Elphaba in a live NBC rendition of ‘Wicked.’
The actress-singer will be joined in the upcoming special by Ariana Grande, her co-star in the 2024 hit musical fantasy epic. A poster for the event was posted via the ‘Wicked’ Instagram page on Monday, May 12, revealing that the special will air on NBC in November. That same month will mark the debut of the film’s sequel, ‘Wicked: For Good.’
According to Variety, the special will be held live at the Peacock Theater and will be available to stream next day on Peacock. During an NBCUniversal upfront presentation, ‘Wicked’ director Jon M. Chu teased what the film’s fans can anticipate from the special.
“This fall, our stars, the wonderful Cynthia Erivo and incandescent Ariana Grande, will be joined by their castmates and some wonderful surprise guests in a one time only event from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, they will perform live many of the songs from the first movie — and maybe a little bit from the second one as well, for a night of entertainment that we think will be, as they say in Oz, thrillifying,” Chu told the audience.
Erivo scored a Best Actress nomination for her portrayal of Elphaba and, alongside Grande, sung a medley of ‘Wicked’ songs during the 97th Academy Awards.
