Did Joe Budden Just Root for Violence? The Feud With Adin Ross Explodes

Budden’s on-air line about ‘rooting’ for violence against Ross set off backlash and reopened a months-long debate he (may have) helped fuel by questioning Doechii’s rise.

Is Joe Budden rooting for violence?

Budden’s recent, widely criticized remark that he’s “rooting” for violence against streamer Adin Ross escalated an already tense online feud – one that Budden possibly helped fuel months earlier by questioning Doechii’s authenticity and saying he understands why people think she might be an “industry plant.”

Recording artist Glasses Malone publicly checked Ross after he heard Ross’ disturbing comments, calling Doechii awful, unnecessary names. Malone said, “I don’t give a f**k if you think that s**t dissing you. You not finna just be sitting up there talking shit about that Black woman. On God, bro. If you keep doing it, I'm going to start pressin' all the n***as around you... and I'm gonna make it my business to get Cr*ps to start pressin' the n***as around. All the n***as that's Black around you."

Reportedly, Budden made his remarks while discussing the controversy and Doechii’s new song “girl, get up.” on his podcast. He said he thought several lines were aimed at Ross. “I do want to say I’m rooting for Glasses Malone to get all the Crips together to beat up [Adin Ross],” Budden said on the show. “I am. Sorry. ’Cause I think that’s who she was talking to on the song.”

Budden’s wish for violence on Ross prompted immediate backlash online and a public response from Ross and his supporters. “Joe Budden, I’ve got police with me and I’m in your city. What are you going to do?” Ross said on a livestream.

Word of Malone’s comments reached Ross quickly and he jumped on stream and fired back, calling Malone a “fat simp” and warning he’d call the police if Glasses ever tried to approach him. Ross also doubled down on his view that Doechii is an “industry plant,” saying he has the right to voice that opinion — a stance critics say ignores the particular scrutiny dark-skinned Black women face online and that, as some observers put it, can amplify racist and misogynistic backlash.

Malone responded immediately and aggressively, accusing Ross of arranging protection through Wack100 behind the scenes. “Wack is not gonna stop me from doing what I wanna do. That’s just not the relationship…He know I’m gone move on whatever I’m supposed to move on the right way,” he said on stream. When Ross threatened to call police, Glasses taunted that he wouldn’t run. “What in the fck make you think if I’m saying this on this fcking camera…n*gga I’m not running… I’ll be right there when they show up.”

Doechii has publicly pushed back on the “industry plant” narrative — most recently in her single “girl, get up.” — and her team and allies have called out critics for undercutting her achievements. People reported that the new song directly confronts the allegation, while TDE-affiliated voices and Doechii’s DJ have also defended her on social platforms.
