Swae Lee Addresses Being Left Out Of ‘Sicko Mode’ Music Video

“At the end of the day, it's a win-win situation.”

As one half of hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd, Swae Lee remains at the front wave of the new generation of hip-hop and R&B. The 24-year-old has co-written and contributed vocals on some of the hottest tracks to come out in recent years, including Beyoncé’s “Formation,” Travis Scott’s “Sicko Mode,” and French Montana’s “Unforgettable.” However, when La Flame dropped the music video for “Sicko Mode” in 2018 excluding him, Swae (and his loyal fans) couldn’t help but notice the absence.

  • Considering that Swae sings the hook throughout the entire song, it felt like a glaring omission. This wasn’t lost on Swae either, who later commented, “Someone said they didn’t see Swae Lee in the sicko mode video yea I noticed that too.”

While some fans interpreted it as another example of a Swae snub, despite his contributions to hip-hop, others suspected behind-the-scenes politics. Whatever the case was, Swae, Travis nor Drake have commented on his exclusion since the visual dropped in 2018. Swae and Drake also recently dropped their “Won’t Be Late” single together, and it appears the three have remained supportive of one another.

  • Thus, Swae recently sat down with WHOO KID at SiriusXM to talk about his career and his forthcoming, as-of-yet untitled album. WHOO brought up the moment again and wondered if Swae was left out to put the focus on Drake and Travis who are bigger artists.

  • “I just take everything, note it, and learn from it,” Swae commented. “It’s just a blessing to be a part of such a big track. At the end of the day, it's a win-win situation. I don’t take nothing personal. Who knows what agenda they had for the song.”

If Swae felt bothered by then, he made it clear it’s water under the bridge now.

  • “I’m a part of that m*therf**ker so I’m not tripping,” Swae said, conveying his bank account isn’t tripping either. “I spoke my piece and left it at that. In the future, everything that is supposed to come to me is going to come to me. I ain’t tripping.”

Swae also said his piece on what it feels like to 24 years old but considered an OG by the current generation coming up under him. Listen to his thoughts on how rap has changed and what he has in store for his LP below.
