Barack Obama Talking About ‘Promised Land’ Playlist with Viral TwinsthenewTrend Will Make Your Day

They talked about making mixtapes.

To celebrate the release of his new memoir A Promised Land, Barack Obama shared a recent conversation that he had with TwinsthenewTrend, the viral teen commentators who listen to music and react to it. The former president surprised them during their video and spoke about music and its role in his memoir.

After reacting to Bob Dylan’s “The Times Are ’A Changin,’” Tim and Fred Williams were surprised when the former POTUS introduced himself in the middle of their video. The president explained why he made a playlist for his A Promised Land memoir, saying that it went with the theme of the book.

Afterwards, Obama answered some questions that TwinsthenewTrend had for him, first off explaining why he picked Dylan’s song for his playlist. “Whenever you can find some musicians that really have a message about how America, or the world, might be, that always is something that I pay attention to. And he’s one of the greatest examples of that.”

The twin brothers then asked the president if he made mixtapes as a child. “I made mixtapes and mixtapes were hard back then,” said the former president with a laugh. “You guys have it easy. Back then you had to figure stuff out like when to stop and start by using all this different equipment. You were using cassette tapes and they used to always mess up. It was a hassle but I did."

“It’s nothing like now,” he continued. “I always tell Malia and Sasha that “You don’t know how good you got it.”

TwinsthenewTrend wrapped up their brief conversation with Obama by asking him for advice that he has for young people right now. The former president responded with an important anecdote about being understanding of others.

“One of the most important things we can do as people, especially as young people, is opening our minds to how other people feel, they’re traditions, and finding common cause with folks,” he said. “The country is so divided right now.”
