Fetty Wap Transferred to Home Confinement After Serving Over 3 Years of Sentence
Hey what’s up hello! Fetty Wap is free!
The rapper, whose real name is Willie Junior Maxwell II, was released from federal prison and transferred to home confinement in Philadelphia on Jan. 8. According to reports, Fetty Wap had been serving a six-year sentence after pleading guilty in 2022 to conspiracy to distribute and possess controlled substances related to a drug-trafficking operation.
He was originally arrested in October 2021 in a multi-defendant indictment tied to trafficking more than 100 kilograms of cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, and crack between California and New York/New Jersey in 2019–2020, according to court filings and reporting at the time. He was sentenced in May 2023 to six years in federal prison.
Reportedly, the rapper served more than three years of that sentence and is now under home confinement until Nov. 8, 2026, subject to supervised conditions that include regular drug testing and restrictions on financial activity and travel. Fetty Wap had been held at FCI Sandstone, a low-security federal prison in Minnesota, before the transfer.
"I want to thank my family, friends, and fans for the love, prayers, and continued support — it truly means everything to me," the rapper said in a statement to Billboard. "Right now, my focus is on giving back through my community initiatives and foundation, supporting at-risk young children by expanding access to education, early tech skills, and vision care for young kids and students so they can show up as their best selves. I’m committed to moving forward with purpose and making a meaningful impact where it matters most."
Prosecutors had previously criticized his conduct and said he had leveraged influence in ways that glamorized illegal activity among fans. However, with this early release, a remorseful Fetty Wap is committed to being a positive influence.
