Adele to Have Surgery on Vocal Cords

The singer has to cancel remaining tour dates and appearances in 2011.

Soul singer Adele announced on Friday that she will have to clear her calendar for the rest of the year in order to undergo surgery to repair her vocal cords. Though the British singer is expected to make a full recovery, her label, Columbia Records, said that “doctors have ordered her to rest her voice and completely recuperate before looking to schedule any work commitments.”

That means her remaining six concert dates will be cancelled, and refunds issued to ticket holders. This isn’t the first time the singer has suffered medical problems related to her voice. Early this month she canceled a tour of several US cities — the second time she’s had to do so this year — saying she had suffered a hemorrhage near her vocal cords and had been ordered to take an extended rest.
