Shopping While Black: 'CSI' Actor Darris Love Accuses LAPD Of Racial Profiling For Cornering Him In A Mall Parking Lot

He was detained for a crime he didn't commit.

Darris Love is taking action against the Los Angeles Police Department after he was wrongfully arrested and detained for a crime he reportedly did not commit.

The actor, best known for his roles on CSI and the since-ended Nickelodeon series The Secret World of Alex Mack, was shopping on June 6 with his girlfriend Ayesha Dumas at the Glendale Galleria. As he was walking through the parking lot to get his parking ticket validated, police tackled Love to the ground, drew guns and pointed them at his head.

There were supposedly reports of a burglary suspect on the loose and authorities assumed Love was the culprit. Additional reports claim cops put their knees into the back of his neck and head, bruised his wrists and twisted his shoulder as he was handcuffed.

LAPD Detective Bill Dunn claims officers watched Love commit a home burglary near the mall, according to ABC7. “We had a little bit of knowledge that something was going to be going on, so we worked with the sheriffs,” the detective said. “We ended up watching them do a burglary, commit a burglary.”

Love attempted to tell the arresting officers to watch the surveillance cameras in hopes it would prove his innocence, but he was still detained for five hours before being released.

Darris Love has seeked the attorney services of James Bryant of The Cochran Firm to file a lawsuit against the LAPD. In addition to being racially profiled, he claims he was the victim of police brutality and plans to seek legal action. He issued his own statement about the incident on his Facebook page.

“Everyone who wants to be an advocate has to stand up to this,” he said, introducing the #IAmNotASuspect hashtag. “To all my black and brown males; we’re no suspects. No more social racial profiling. No more shooting our people in the streets. We’re going to create a fund from this lawsuit and we’re going to pay for the right lawyer representation. I don’t give a f**k about acting anymore. We have to be the people’s champ.”
