Two Lewis Talks Father's Day, The Birth of His First Son and Lessons Learned From His Late Dad

Already a husband to actress Naturi Naughton and bonus dad to her daughter, Zuri, the celebrity talent manager is embarking on a new role in life.

When Xavier Two Lewis found out his wife, actress Naturi Naughton was pregnant with their first son, he knew exactly what to do. As a man who was taught at an early age the importance of discipline, the 37-year-old celebrity manager took the lessons from his past to serve as the quintessential building blocks for his future.

Lewis’ origin story began on the tough streets of Atlanta. He was inspired by “neighborhood teachers,” including “people from your "drug dealers to your politicians to your athletes to local business owners,” who helped him understand his potential. He would eventually become one of the most influential power players in Hollywood.

As a young man, Lewis learned that being a product of his environment came with a price and bravely made the decision to pursue a life outside the hood. “ I just had to suppress them because you know how you grew up. I grew up in the hood. And you can't just [be] like ‘Oh, I just want to get married.’ You know, you gotta be cool. You hang with the fellas,” he admits.

Lewis matured from a boy with a plan to a man living his dreams. He fell head over heels in love with Naughton and had “the wedding of the year” when the duo tied the knot in 2022, and added her daughter Zuri (whom he calls his bonus daughter) to his life. The dream hit a peak in 2023, when his first son, Tru Xavier Lewis, was born.

“Zuri is over the moon. When she wakes up, she goes right into his room,” says Lewis of his children’s budding relationship. “She wants to feed him. She wants to hold him. She wants to change him. She wants to do everything.”

Less than a month after giving birth, Naughton is “back into the swing of things,” which is another layer to Lewis’s dream.

“Naturi is doing great," he says as he strives to be the support system she deserves post baby. To mark the arrival of their son, Lewis gifted Naughton with a brand-new 2023 Mercedes 580 electric truck.

As Father’s Day approaches, Lewis is reflecting exclusively with BET.com about his early days in the streets, how fatherhood has changed his life, and why he believes other men should be more supportive of their women pre- and post-baby.

When I found out I was having a little boy, it was a feeling that I can't even explain. I was still on the high of just getting married. It was just such a surreal, amazing feeling. As a man growing up in the South, most of my friends already had kids. So for me to finally get married and then have my kid [with] the person of my dreams, in full partnership, was an amazing feeling.

It's been my dream since I was in kindergarten. I remember saying I wanted to be the world's greatest and most amazing father. As a first-time dad, it's what I kind of thought it would be. Seeing yourself through your own eyes is definitely nothing I could have ever imagined.

The first time I heard his heartbeat, it was an out-of-this-world experience. Going through this process blew my mind away; understanding how good God is and how perfect he made women. It's the most godly thing. Women are such a blessing to the whole earth because they are able to make and create life just like God.

As men, we never prepare for this. We don't talk about pregnancy at all. We don't really have thoughts about how this entire thing works, so everything was brand new to me. Men are always told to take care of the family and to provide, [not] the process of loving on your wife during her hard times or staying up all night with the kids. And so it's all things that I couldn't imagine, but I'm grateful that I'm going through it now, and I want to share that experience with others because I want more men to be prepared.

When Tru Was Born…

I was there when the baby first came out. It was such a powerful feeling. I was there with all the blood and like, ‘Whoa!’ They brought him over to us, and he was quiet. He didn't cry until they took him away from us and put him on the table to do all the tests.

He came out with a headful of hair, beautiful lips, and gorgeous skin color. He's just so handsome. The nurses and doctors in the hospital came to our room, saying how beautiful and handsome he was.

When Tru Was Named…

We actually went through a lot of different names. When Naturi looked up the meaning of Tru, we discovered it meant “fully realized or fulfilled, and that dreams come true.” That is what we stand for. It's as if our lives and our legacy together have been fully realized in another human form.

When Tru Came Home…

I'm on every duty known to mankind right now. I’ve changed at least 100 diapers with a lot of sleepless nights. The first two nights, I was up for 48 hours. I couldn't tell if I was coming or going, but it's such an incredible feeling when you're learning because it's my first child. I’m learning about every sound that he makes, every breath that he takes, and every move.

When Tru Learns About His Grandfather…

I lost my father two years ago. I was his little boy. He would probably be smiling and wouldn’t be able to stop smiling. He had a big heart. I know he was always waiting for me to have my first, and so hopefully he's smiling down and enjoying his time with his father in heaven. I know he would be beaming with joy and very happy.

My dad never let me say, ‘I don't know’. He would say, ‘As a Black boy and a future Black man, you need to always have an answer,' and I plan to teach my son the same. I want him to make sure he does his due diligence to have an answer. Always treat people with respect. Always look them in the eye. Always work hard. Always put your family first, always be there for your loved ones, and give it your all.

I take him to the mirror and say affirmations with him. It's as though I’m looking at myself through the eyes of an older version of myself. It sounds so crazy and feels like a flashback. It makes me wonder if my dad looked at me the same way.

When Tru Gets Older…

Right now, I just want him to be happy and filled with love and joy. I think at four months, he can start learning how to swim. I'm already planning activities, educational and learning practices that we can start with him. And of course, I want to teach him financial literacy from the get-go. I want to teach him the importance of money from the beginning of life, not at the end.

When Tru and I celebrate Father’s Day…

Father's Day will be a day to give love, not only to my father, but to every man, every uncle, every role model, and every coach that I ever had. I try to make sure I pour them a little love because I know that it wasn't just my father's words that got me to where I am. It wasn't just my father's influence. It was a group of men who were able to pour into me
