Hispanic Teens Only Charged With Aggravated Assault After Shooting Black Man Nine Times

The victim was shot after asking the men to stop using the N-word.

A Black man was shot nine times after telling two Hispanic teens to stop using the N-word.

The man, identified as CT on the GoFundMe page his father shared on Facebook, survived.

The teens were charged with aggravated assault, reports Atlanta Black Star

“It was two people that shot me and they shot me nine times,” CT told Fox 10, according to Atlanta Black Star. “So how can you call that aggravated assault?”

CT is reportedly a 33-year-old photographer in Phoenix, according to ABC15

On Sept. 12, he was taking landscape photos at a local park and live-streaming on Facebook. He was approached by three young Hispanic men around 9 p.m. The teens asked if he could take their picture, ABC 15 reports.

CT agreed to take their photo and told them, “Nah, I ain’t gonna charge you,” when they asked if he’d want to be paid.

The three teens reportedly began calling him the N-word, and when CT told them not to say that word because they weren’t Black, the situation escalated.

“I say what the [expletive] I want,” one of the suspects said, according to Fox, the Atlanta Black Star reports.

CT responded, “No, you cannot. Not in front of me.”

His live-stream captured the incident, and at one point CT can be heard telling the teens, “Didn’t I tell you don’t say the N-word? Didn’t I say that?”

Shortly after, five shots could be heard going off in the video and CT called 911.

“Hey I just got shot,” he said in the video to an emergency dispatcher. “I’m at Encanto Park. Please help me.”

The dispatcher can be heard asking CT, “Who shot you?”

Disoriented and out of breath, CT answered, “Three kids.”

Police were able to identify them from the pictures CT took and reported that two of them shot the victim, according to ABC15.

Ricardo Mendoza-Sanchez and Angel Ortega Romero, both 18, were arrested. An unidentified 17-year-old boy was also arrested, ABC15 reports

Two of the suspects reportedly had handguns on them when they were arrested, according to what police told ABC15.

CT was shot a total of nine times by two different suspects, according to court paperwork, ABC 15 reports.

“While I was on the ground I was just praying and asking God not now,” CT told Fox 10. “I was just saying not now, not … not now.”

CT also told Fox 10 that he wants to see the teens charged with attempted murder after reportedly shooting him nine times. He was left with one bullet in his shoulder, Fox 10 reports.

The teens were accused of aggravated assault and street gang activity, according to the Atlanta Black Star.

“Like, what was aggravated?” CT said. “Like, they tried to kill me.”

Miraculously, he survived the critical injuries.

“I’m here because of the blessing of God,” said CT, who asked ABC15 not to disclose his real name. “I’m here because I have a purpose on earth.”
