Racist Trolls Are Trying To Sabotage ‘Black Panther’

Rotten Tomatoes: Not on our watch.

The anticipation for Marvel's Black Panther will soon be a thing of the past as we're now a mere two weeks away from the nationwide release of the film. However, racist trolls who find it difficult to grasp the multiple Black leads in what is arguably being dubbed the most highly anticipated film of the year are already on the attack in an attempt to halt the film's success.

According to Indie Wire, a Facebook event was created titled "Give Black Panther a Rotten Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes" and was set to launch on the film's opening day. The event's mission statement explained that "those disgruntled with Disney business practices" had this forum to sabotage the release as payback.

"I feel that it's time to strike back at all those under Disney and bring down the house of mouse's actions for paying off the critics that hurt DC Comics on film and for other parties affected by them," it reads.

After Rotten Tomatoes, the platform where audience film scores are recorded, got wind of the intended threat, they released firm a response via The Wrap.

"We at Rotten Tomatoes are proud to have become a platform for passionate fans to debate and discuss entertainment and we take that responsibility seriously," it reads. "While we respect our fans' diverse opinions, we do not condone hate speech. Our team of security, network and social experts continue to closely monitor our platforms and any users who engage in such activities will be blocked from our site and they comments removed as quickly as possible."

The Facebook event has since been removed from the social media site.

As for Black Panther, the film is on track to earn between $120 to $150 million in its opening weekend, which kicks off on February 16, 2017.
