The Internet Is Blaming Solange For SZA's Underwhelming 'The Weekend' Video

Fans were not impressed, to say the least.

SZA just dropped the music video for her certified-platinum anthem “The Weekend” on Dec. 22. While the track quickly became a fan favorite off her debut album, CTRL, reactions to the video weren’t as enthusiastic. Overall, Twitter fans seemed to be underwhelmed by SZA's music video and they’re pointing the finger at its director, Solange Knowles.

When SZA first announced that she was working with Solange on the video, fans were ecstatic. But after seeing the video, people had a much different opinion. Of course, like anything else Solange does, the video was beautiful, but fans took issue with the fact that the visuals didn’t match the lyrical content.

As we all know, there was a lot of debate about the narrative SZA was conveying. Many believed “The Weekend” was a "side chick anthem," but that’s not what they got from the video. Instead, people suggested its aesthetic was much more along the lines of Solange’s “Cranes in the Sky” video rather than the seductive art they would’ve liked to see.

While they love Solange and SZA separately, many feel like their art doesn't necessarily fit together. Did you think "The Weekend" was a hit or miss?  Check out more reactions below.
