The unexpected death of Philly battle rapper Tech 9, real name Akhiym Mickens, shocked (and confused) many fans given the circumstances and scant details of his fatality.

For starters, there were no confirmed details or reports involving his cause of death made available to the public. To make matters even more confusing, his fellow spitter from the battle rap ring, Buttah From Da Block, reportedly made a statement revealing that no signs of harm were done to Tech 9’s body and that his loved ones were “praying that it was natural causes.” Over a week later, still no information on his fatality from family or friends has been released. Something far more shocking has, however: court documents (reportedly obtained by Complex) revealing a disturbing skeleton in the battle rapper’s closet involving sexual assault charges against a minor.

And after fans caught a glimpse of the documents, they believe there’s now a far more logical, but mortifying, explanation for his death as well: suicide.

  1. According to ‘Complex,’ the documents show that Mickens was scheduled for a formal arraignment on March 25…

His pre-trial conference was also slated for April 16. The documents also reportedly show arrest and complaint dates from early January. The charges listed in the docs also include several heinous acts under child sexual assault, such as unlawful contact with minor (for which sexual offenses and corruption of minors are filed) and indecent assault without consent of other. More charges, Complex reports, also indicate child pornography, such as criminal use of communication facility and photography/film/depict on computer sex act. There’s also charges of indecent assault involving a person less than 16 years old along with indecent assault without consent of other, which Complex reports were listed as “dismissed.”

The docs reported by Complex additionally show a posted $50,000 bail on January 7.

Complex adds that they reached out to the Philadelphia County District Attorney’s Office but had not yet heard back. Fans everywhere are stunned by such reports, especially having sent up condolences for Mickens’ passing just one week ago. But given that his death was reported the morning of his aforementioned arraignment, they can’t help but find it far more than coincidental that his unaccounted death occurred at such a time:
