Nas On Strained Relationship With Kelis: ‘I Got Love For My Ex-Wife’

“...No one really gave me advice on how to deal with what I was going through with a broken family."

The sourly-public contention between Kelis and Nas, hip-hop’s ex-lovebirds and parents to Knight Jones, is seeing brighter days in 2019.

The first sign of reconciliation peaked when the Queens-emerged rap icon dropped contempt charges against his former wife amid a custody battle over their 10-year-old son. The courtroom motion came as pleasantly surprising news after their September 2018 verbal lashings against each other, activated by Kelis’s reveal of a domestic violence past with Escobar. The consequential turn of events resulted in Nas’s seven-page letter indignantly rebutting her claims and the former-hip-hop-songstress-turned-culinary-guru firing back via Instagram commentary.

Nearly a year later, the Lost Tapes 2 rapper has kinder words for the mother of his son, which he disclosed in a new interview with New York Post.

  • Nas explained that he was never equipped with the knowledge of dealing with a family breakup.

“I’ve been through a whole lot, and no one really gave me advice on how to deal with what I was going through with a broken family,” he said. Fortunately, however, he’s “optimistic” that things will look up from here, and he’s still got love in his heart for Kelis. “Certain things just have to develop into a better place. But I got love for my ex-wife.”

  • The tender subject matter is one that he touches on for “Beautiful Life,” the RaVaughn-assisted cut of Lost Tapes 2 where he reflects on his past relationships. Though he specifically addresses the child support tug-of-war with her on the track, he concludes that he wishes nothing but the best for her new marriage (real estate magnate, Mike Mora).

  • Here’s to more healthy co-parenting and even bigger blessings for the two!
