Lizzo Leads The 2020 Grammy Awards With 8 Nominations

See the full list of nominees for the 2020 Grammy Awards.

After a possible leak scare, the official nominations for the 2020 Grammy Awards are in.

  • On Wednesday (Nov. 20), the Recording Academy announced the full list of Grammy nominees for the 62nd annual ceremony. 15-time Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys, who is hosting the 2020 installment of the awards show, joined acclaimed journalist Gayle King on CBS This Morning to introduce the nominees, and a number of music’s newest stars are leading the pack.

  • Lizzo’s phenomenal breakthrough year is far from over as the multi-hyphenate rap artist has cinched more than eight noms, including nods in every major award category. Her third studio album, Cuz I Love You, is also up for one award as Album of the Year. The raptress’ revived sleeper hit, “Truth Hurts,” is dually up for Record of the Year and Song of the Year as well.

  • Country-trap sensation Lil Nas X came in as a close second with six nominations, including nods in the four big categories as well, largely thanks to his history-making hit song “Old Town Road.” Lil Nas is also up for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance alongside country icon Billy Ray Cyrus.
Both Lizzo and Lil Nas have been recognized as one of this year’s Best New Artist alongside pop darling Billie Eilish and Latin pop star Rosalía. R&B darling H.E.R. came in third with five nominations, including Album of the Year for her EP, I Used to Know Her. This is both Lizzo and Lil Nas’ first time as Grammy Award nominees.

  • Lil Nas reacted to the exciting news on social media. He had three succinct words that pretty much sums up how all the nominees are feeling right now.

  • Although none of its artist received an individual nomination, except J. Cole (Best Rap Performance for "Middle Child"), the Dreamville flagship’s well-received third compilation album, Revenge of the Dreamers III, is up for Best Rap Album against Meek Mill (Championships), 21 Savage (I Am > I Was), Tyler the Creator (IGOR) and rising rap star YBN Cordae (The Lost Boy). Cordae, who has also been nominated for his Chance the Rapper-assisted song, “Bad Idea,” off his debut album, was in shock that he’d been nominated for two Grammys.

“Yo I got nominated for a f**king GRAMMY. WHAT THE ACTUAL F**K,” the 22-year-old wrote on Twitter, in shock. “[Two] of ‘em!!!!”

  • Needless to say, competition is undoubtedly stiff in what has been one of the biggest years in music in terms of the newest generation of stars taking over the charts.

See the full list of nominees below. Tune in to the 2020 Grammy Awards ceremony when it airs on January 26, 2020, on CBS.
