The Verzuz IG series is wasting no time to capitalize off of the popularity of having super producers Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds and Teddy Riley battle it out between their hit songs. Now, the IG series plans to feature its first two female competitors.
On Friday (May 1), Swizz Beatz returned to Instagram where he unveiled that the undisputable “Queens of Neo-Soul” — Erykah Badu and Jill Scott — will go head-to-head in the virtual series’ next installment. The event is sponsored by Femme It Forward, the branch of Live Nation that spotlights the entertainment industry’s most creative female visionaries through various experiences.
“It’s time for the Queens to represent,” Swizz announced. “[Erykah Badu] vs [Jill Scott]. The paperwork is in, [Timbaland]. Shout out [Femme It Forward]. Let’s go May 9th, the day before Mother’s Day.”
This comes after fans floated out the possibility of a matchup earlier this week between Badu and Lauryn Hill. While flattered, the Dallas-native responded saying that she felt like she would be “pulverized” if put up against Hill.
Plus, the four-time Grammy winner has been busy with her apocalyptic “Quarantine Concert Series,” which has been a hit amongst fans.
It’ll be interesting to see which cuts the R&B-soul icons pull from their respective iconic discographies.
Erykah Badu and Jill Scott’s match is set for next Saturday on May 9 at 7 PM ET. Follow the battle using #FemmeItForward.
