Wendy Williams Opens Up About Fat-Shaming and Body Image Struggles

"My first diet was in the first grade!" she told People magazine.

It's hard to imagine a time when Wendy Williams was shy and insecure, but in a recent interview with People magazine, the daytime talk show host admits that she had a difficult time accepting herself as a child.
"I grew up being fat-shamed by my family," Williams said. "My first diet was in the first grade! Tuna fish and mustard with yogurt on the side." Her lack of self-confidence continued into high school where she felt like she didn't belong.
In high school, Williams always felt like the odd girl out. "I was just the girl standing on the side, looking at everybody having fun and saying, 'I can't wait to get out of here and set the world on fire'," she added.
Unfortunately, her moment of arrival didn't appear before dealing with a cocaine addiction in her 20s and 30s, but now Williams can proudly look back on all the obstacles she busted through to get to where she is today — happy with a family and reaping in the successes of her radio and subsequent talk show.
"I feel like I'm just getting started," she said.
