Gabrielle Union Shares Thoughts on Pre-nups and Pregnancy

"I want to make it clear that I have in no way hitched my wagon to his star," she says.

Gabrielle Union has been enjoying wedded bliss for five months now and before she even said, “I do,” to Dwyane Wade, she was upfront about their signing a prenuptial agreement. In past interviews she mentioned her wish to protect her stuff and her insecurities about Wade’s financial smarts as the reason why she insisted on a prenup.

"When you have your own stuff, you don't need to worry about anybody else's stuff,” she told
Arsenio Hall during her engagement. “So everyone should go into the relationship knowing I'm here for you and you're here for me. And the reality is, I've never seen Dwyane balance a checkbook, so I gotta protect my stuff. It's the wave of the future, protecting your stuff."

In a recent interview with
Yahoo Style, Union explained again why she wanted to have an agreement in place before getting married.

“For women in Hollywood, when they’re coupling, everything is about the brand. Everything is about latching on to a rising star, so you can kick your heels up,” she said. “That’s never been my story, ever. I make sure to let people know all of the hard work that’s gone into my career. I want people to know the work that it took to get through UCLA, that I had student loans and worked. I was eating Top Ramen and lived well below my means. Now that it’s time to get married to a man who happens to play basketball and has done well for himself, I want to make it clear that I have in no way hitched my wagon to his star. I have my own wagon and star.”

Now that the couple has married, she said questions about babies have started coming in.

“The fact that I can do a press junket for a movie and people ask me what’s happening in my uterus says a lot. They want 110 percent of what you have to offer. But now that I’ve been given a voice, I’m going to use it.”
