  1. A white Mississippi police officer has been charged in connection with the murder of a Black mother of four who was found dead on May 19.

On Sunday, police responded to reports of a shooting and found 32-year-old Dominique Lashelle Clayton lying face-down on her bed.

Clayton’s sister, Shyjuan Clayton, told WHBQ-TV the victim and officer Matthew Kinne, a four-year veteran of the Oxford Police Department, were having an affair.

“He bought my sister a car, he had it in his name, he was about to get her a house, he basically just didn't want his wife to find out,” she told reporters.

  2. After officials determined Kinne and Clayton were romantically “involved,” the case was transferred to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and Kinne was named a suspect, Interim Oxford Police Chief Jeff McCutchen told the local news station.

“We will not hide behind our badge," McCutchen said. "Dominque was a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend and a member of our community. This day is about her.”

On the night of May 20, Kinne was arrested and charged with murder.

Although the police department is not releasing much information on the killing, Clayton’s friends have shed light on the incident.

According to her friends, Clayton was shot in the back of the head during a domestic dispute with Kinne, and her 8-year-old son found her after being dropped off at the house by a family member on Sunday.

Kinne is being held in the Panola County jail.
