A teenager who lived outside of New York City was reportedly stabbed to death during an after-school brawl as dozens witnessed the fight – many of whom took video rather than seek help.
Police say 16-year-old Khaseen Morris and a friend were engaged in the fight amongst the onlookers in front of a pizzeria in a strip mall parking lot in Oceanside, Long Island on Monday (September 16).
Morris was fatally stabbed in the chest while his 17-year-old friend, who remains unidentified, suffered a broken arm and swelling to his head. Nassau County Deputy Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrcik told reporters the deadly dispute was over a girl, whom Morris walked home the previous night.
Investigators, according to NBC News, believe there were as many as 60 teens gathered in the parking lot when the confrontation took place. “Kids stood here and didn’t help Khaseen,” Fitzpatrick said. “They’d rather video. They videoed his death instead of helping him.”
Fitzpatrick continued, “If you’re not a part and parcel of the murder of Khaseen Morris, now’s the time to get in touch with us to let us know who did this and why. If it was just coming here and thinking you were fighting and then he got stabbed during that, you need to get in front of this."
No arrests have been made in connection to the stabbing death, but authorities believe the killer and possible accomplices will be caught soon. It’s unclear exactly how many were engaged in the fight.
