Athletes and Others React to Aaron Hernandez's Shocking Suicide

"I thought he was about to appeal his case. Wow."

Published April 19, 2017

The news of Aaron Hernandez's shocking suicide Wednesday is hitting the NFL community — and beyond — hard.

Here's how several former and current NFL players, as well as Twitter, are reacting to the former New England Patriots tight end taking his own life in a prison hanging this morning.

  1. Mike Wallace

The Baltimore Ravens wide receiver speaks for all of us while reacting to the shocking news.

  2. Antonio Cromartie

Cromartie is right. The timing of Hernandez's suicide couldn't have been odder considering he was just found not guilty last Thursday of a double murder and was expecting to appeal and overturn his 2015 conviction for the murder of Odin Lloyd, for which he was serving a separate life sentence without the possibility of parole.

  3. Ike Taylor

People will bring up conspiracy theories about everything, we guess.

  4. LeSean McCoy

Interesting take from the Buffalo Bills rusher.

  5. LaRoy Reynolds

The Atlanta Falcons linebacker was just stunned.

  6. Phillip Tanner

The former NFL running back is referring to the $40 million contract that Hernandez inked with the New England Patriots back in 2012.

  7. Of course, in true Internet fashion, social media exercised zero chill

So soon? Damn, that's not right.

  8. People didn't hold back at all

  9. But people expressed sorrow, too

We feel for the little one as well. She lost her dad to a life sentence in prison and then lost him, period.

  10. And then there's this tweet trying to put things in perspective

It's crazy how this story wound up.
