20 Year Old Star LSU Basketball Player Wayde Sims Shot And Killed

He was struck by a bullet outside of a Subway across from Southern's A.W. Mumford Stadium.

Wayde Sims, a Junior basketball player for Louisiana State University, has been shot and killed.

Early Saturday morning, the 20-year-old was involved in an altercation at a Subway restaurant across from Southern University’s football stadium.

Video obtained of the incident shows several men fighting in the street. A gunshot can subsequently be heard with Sims falling to the ground almost instantly. All of the men besides Sims then run from the scene.

Police have arrested Dyteon Simpson for the fatal shooting. He’s been charged with second-degree murder, according to the Baton Rouge Police Department.

Authorities say that Simpson dropped his glasses during the altercation. They were tested for DNA, which led them to Simpson.

"On behalf of LSU, I would like to thank the Baton Rouge Police Department, East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Department, the District Attorney's office and all law enforcement involved in this case for their hard work, diligence and pursuit of justice," Joe Alleva, LSU’s athletic director said on Saturday in a statement. "Along with LSU Athletics, the entire LSU family continues to mourn the loss of Wayde Sims. Our thoughts today are with his family, friends and teammates."
