Tamir Rice

Tamir Rice was a 12-year-old African-American boy who was fatally shot by police in Cleveland, Ohio. A police dispatch call described a “male sitting on a swing and pointing a gun at people” in a city park, referring to Rice. Upon arrival at the scene, two officers reported that Rice reached towards a gun in his waistband. They then fired two shots at the adolescent, hitting Rice in the torso. It was later found that Rice’s gun was an Airsoft replica and was completely fake. He died the day after the shooting. Timothy Loehmann, the officer who shot Rice, was later proven to be an emotionally unstable recruit and unfit for duty.  (Photo: Lisa DeJong/The Plain Dealer /Landov)
