2021 Soul Train Awards: Songs That Prove Why These Singers Are The Best R&B/Soul Male Artists

Chris Brown took home the honors at last year’s event.

The  2021 Soul Train Awards nominations for Best R&B and Soul are in and this year’s nominees have all been putting in  work and climbing up the musical charts throughout the year with their respective records.

Last year, Chris Brown won big at the musical event, taking home four trophies after receiving a total 12 nominations that night. However, with hard working newbies like Lucky Daye and Giveon, whom both haven’t missed a beat since dropping their breakthrough tracks “Roll Some Mo’” and “Garden Kisses,” respectively in 2018,  it's looking to be anyone’s game this year.

As we gear up for this month’s night of celebration,  we’ve made a list of songs reminding us why these entertainers deserve to be Best R&B/Soul Male Artist.

  • Chris Brown “Go Crazy”

Chris Brown definitely holds his fans down when it comes to a summer anthem and his Young Thug assisted track, proved no different. Since its release, the song has peaked at No. 3 on Billboard’s Hot 100.

  • Giveon “Heartbreak Anniversary”

Though this California native is relatively new to the music scene, he’s already putting in the work of a serious superstar. In the last three years, the 26-year has obtained a feature with Justin Bieber and Drake, in addition to his first ever Grammy nomination.

  • Justin Bieber “Peaches”

The evolution of Justin Bieber has been a sight to see, especially since his earlier days as a teeny bopper heartthrob. “Peaches” featuring Giveon and Daniel Caesar, finds the Canadian superstar introducing more soul elements into his traditional pop sound, a move the singer has often been vocal about.

  • Lucky Daye “Over”

This sultry number samples Musiq Soul Child’s “Crazy,” another one of our favorite numbers from the veteran musician. Throughout several of the projects he’s released over the years, Lucky has mastered putting his own flair--a mix between trap music and R&B--onto traditional soul sounds, accompanied by his tenor voice, to make for what he told Apple Music is “left-handed music.”

  • Ne-Yo “What If”

Ne-Yo is a living legend having created hits for himself, not to mention several top-charting others, including Beyoncé and Rhianna, it’s no wonder why he’s one of our favs.

  • T-Pain “I Like Dat”

The Tallahassee native teams up with R&B singer Kelani for a more refreshed take on his classic record from 2007, “Buy You a Drink.” T-Pain, proving the musician is timeless.

  • Tank “Can’t Let It Show”

A conversation about R&B males artists isn’t complete without the inclusion of Tank and his modern R&B sound alongside his vivid storytelling and sensual lyrics to boot.

  • USHER “Bad Habit”

Usher’s Las Vegas residency has been the talk around town and since dropping onto the scene since the early 90s, we haven’t stopped talking about him either.
