Freeway Reflects on the Up and Down Year He's Had

The Philly rapper makes life changes to stay healthy and strong.

Before following his doctor's orders and heading to the closest emergency room, Freeway stopped and prayed that he would be alright.
Thankfully, his prayers were answered.

As Freeway recovers from kidney failure, he explained to BET.com in an exclusive interview how his trials and tribulations have given him a renewed outlook on life this year, starting with the loss of his good friend, West Coast rapper, Jacka.
"The year I had has definitely been a lot of ups and a lot of downs. I really experienced life this year," he said. "I lost somebody that I really cared about dearly, and that I collaborated with and that I traveled the world with. My man Jacka." The MC said that he felt as though he lost a part of himself when the West Coast rapper passed earlier this year.
From feeling low about losing one of his best friends, to the high of taking the Made In America stage for the third time since the festival's inception, Freeway hit another low with his recent kidney failure diagnosis. But, he is quickly readjusting his lifestyle to remain as healthy as possible even if that means a more restrictive show schedule due to dialysis.
"Right now my sessions I'm getting of dialysis have me feeling great; I feel amazing. So I'm definitely going to be able to work, it's just a time thing." Freeway continued, "I have to get dialysis three times a week. I have to get dialysis Monday, Wednesday and Friday, so I won't be able to do [any] shows during the week."
Aside from switching up his work schedule, the Philly MC and his wife reflected on his new, restricted diet, and although it's hard, they are both clear that health comes first.
Oh, and just so you know, his new album Freedom is on the way, so get ready!
"I'm still making good music. I think I'm better than ever," he said, and we couldn't agree more.
