The third member of an Atlanta gang that beat up an African-American 20-year-old gay man earlier this month has turned himself in.

Around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Darael Damare Williams surrendered to Erie, Pennsylvania police. An hour later, he was arraigned on fugitive charges.

FBI agents say they were looking for Williams since the Feb. 4 robbery and attack on Brandon White, a gay male, outside a neighborhood market in Atlanta. Williams allegedly fled to Erie, where he has relatives, to hide out from the feds.

Williams is believed to be one of three males who punched, kicked and slammed White with an abandoned car tire before robbing him — all while shouting anti-gay slurs in front of a recording video camera. Dorian Morange and Christopher Cain, both 19, were arrested last week.

Senior Media Field Strategist of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation Daryl Hannah tells BET.com that, in the African-American community, coming out is extremely difficult because Black men are expected to be the strong male figure. If someone is gay, according to Hannah, there is an inherent belief that he cannot be that figure and that he is less of a man.

Being African-American and homosexual is “about the worst thing you can be in Black culture,” CNN anchor Don Lemon told The New York Times last year after revealing that he was gay.

Williams is being held on $250,000 bond at the Erie County Prison as he awaits an extradition hearing, authorities said.
