'I Didn't Break Out—I Was Let Out': Fugitive Speaks Out After New Orleans Jail Escape
Antoine Massey, one of two inmates still at large following a mass escape from the Orleans Parish Prison on May 16, has surfaced in a social media video proclaiming his innocence and alleging he was "let out" of jail, not an escapee, according to reports.
In the now-deleted video, which was posted to Instagram, a man identifying himself as Massey appeals for assistance from the federal government, rapper Lil Wayne, and others, claiming he is being wrongfully accused.
Authorities have confirmed that the video prompted a search of a residence in New Orleans believed to be the filming location. While Massey was not found at the property, clothing linked to him was recovered.
Massey, 32, was being held on charges including rape, kidnapping, and domestic abuse involving strangulation. He has a history of escape attempts, including previous jailbreaks and violations of ankle monitoring.
The May 16 escape involved 10 inmates who exploited a faulty cell door and removed a toilet to access a hole in the wall, leading to their escape. Eight of the escapees have since been recaptured. Authorities continue to search for Massey and Derrick Groves, a convicted murderer.
Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson has urged the remaining escapees to surrender, stating that cooperation with law enforcement is in their best interest and may help avoid additional charges.
A reward of $50,000 is being offered for information leading to the capture of each fugitive.
