Malia Obama Takes Director’s Seat for A’ja Wilson Nike Spot

The Harvard University graduate directed the vignette for Wilson’s ‘A’One’ sneakers.

Malia Obama put her Harvard University bachelor’s degree to good use by directing a new commercial for A’ja Wilson.

The WNBA phenom stars in a new Nike commercial for her ‘A’One’ sneakers, for which Obama directed the vignette. After being in production for two years, the release starts with the Pink A’ura colorway, which will be available for purchase beginning May 6 at 10 a.m. EST.

“The A’One is meant to go the distance, taking control from the jump and dominating the floor on every play,” Wilson said in a statement. “From the beginning, we designed the shoe to both support my game and to provide young hoopers a tool to help them level up. The A’One aces that assignment, delivering exactly what I need to push my performance and inspiring the next generation to give it their all on every play.”

For Obama, who professionally goes by Malia Ann, the commercial is one of her many entertainment projects. She’s previously been behind the camera for the 2023 short film, “The Heart,” which debuted at Sundance Film Festival last year. The 26-year-old also wrote the film, as well as served as co-writer of former Prime Video series “Swarm.”
