While most people consider the relationship of Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian to be the ultimate #goals, the people at Slate seem to think otherwise.
Although Williams has frequently detailed how supportive and incredible Ohanian has been in their relationship — and Ohanian has made several over-the-top gestures to show his love for the tennis star — Slate writer Heather Schwedel questioned if they are "performing" being happy.
“By the crude math that we use to judge couples, it sure seems like they both won — or at least, Williams and Ohanian are very good at reassuring us of this,” the article read. “On the whole, the Williams-Ohanian family’s online content is extremely cute, but it also feels like a pretty baroque and labor-intensive domestic charade.”
Once the article was tweeted from Slate's official Twitter page, most people agreed the "hot take" was really a "trash take."
After the story received much backlash, Schwedel, who penned the article, wrote on Twitter, “This piece was for a package analyzing a bunch of different celebrity relationships. I’ve found some of the criticism it’s gotten useful and persuasive (some less so) and appreciate it.”
