Pharrell Donates Thousands of Books to Children in Need

The singer and his publisher launched the "Happy" campaign for young readers.

Pharrell loves the kids and as shown in his new "Happy" campaign in conjunction with Penguin Young Readers, he's pushing the importance of literacy to the younger generation.

According to Billboard, the singer and Penguin have both partnered up with FirstBook, a nonprofit literacy organization, to donate up to 50,000 books to children with low socio-economic backgrounds.

Making the campaign an interactive social media experience, Penguin announced on Tuesday that the Twitter hashtag #readHappy had been created for fans to post their thoughts or personal images on why reading makes them happy. Every post made on social media or elsewhere will lead to a donation to FirstBook.

"Every child on this planet deserves to experience the joy of reading," the "Freedom" crooner said in a statement, issued through Penguin.

The singer's picture book titled Happy will be released next week.
