The dead body of a New York nurse was discovered by her brothers on Tuesday after she wasn’t answering any calls from her family.

Samantha Stewart was discovered on the floor of her bedroom with trauma to her neck and head, reported the New York Post.

According to Stewart’s relatives, the 29-year-old was wrapped in a white sheet with her teeth knocked out and her tongue hanging out of her mouth. A medical examiner determined the cause of death was “manual strangulation.” There were no signs of forced entry into Stewart’s home and police have made no arrests.

Keniel Stewart, Samantha’s 17-year-old brother, said several family members tried calling her on Monday but their calls went straight to voice mail. When this continued the next day, two of her brothers went to conduct a welfare check.

“I ran in the house,” Keniel told The Post. “I took a glimpse of her and went back outside. That’s not how I wanted to remember her, so I didn’t want to see her.”

Family members last spoke to Stewart on Monday afternoon when she was getting ready for work at North Shore University Hospital.

Her death is being investigated as a homicide.
