This year, both Father’s Day and Juneteenth happen to fall on the 19th of the month giving the Black community a double dose of joy to celebrate.

BET wants to join in on the fun by launching a new campaign, “Where Black Fathers Are Celebrated,” as a way for us all to formally recognize Black fathers and father-figures who leave us inspired, entertained, and all the more wiser each day.

Starting today, May 26, 2022, Greenfly will have an open platform for people to submit a video of one-minute or less  in appreciation and praise of a Black father or father-figure, speaking about his biggest impact on your life, and within the greater community.  The video cannot contain music, lyrics, or music videos unless 100% original and all copyrights are owned by the person posting.

We hope this contest will help celebrate all the incredible fathers and father-figures out there who are making an impact and leaving a legacy in our communities.”

A group of BET employees will get together to review and judge the entries. Each submission will be evaluated based on three key characteristics found in the nominees shown in both their personal life and their work within the community. Winners will be someone who has served as a role model or inspiration and/or championed the personal and professional endeavors of those in their life, fought for personal freedom and someone who is invested in their children’s/those in their care ability to live a thriving life. This is a Black man who has made a sacrifice allowing loved ones to achieve their goals and who continues to be a guiding light to others.

“This year, Father’s Day and Juneteenth fall on the same day, so we wanted to use this day to celebrate the Black fathers and father-figures in our community who are leading the way,” said Jeanine Liburd, Chief Social Impact and Communications Officer.

One grand prize winner will be selected to score $10,000 while 156 second prize winners will choose from one of 10 themed BET Father’s Day Gift Boxes any of which would be perfect for Dad, including:
