Mary J. Blige Has Thoughts On Cardi B's Album Of The Year Win At The 2019 BET Awards
On Sunday night (June 23), Cardi B took home BET’s top award for Album of the Year with her Grammy-winning debut studio album, Invasion of Privacy.
The 26-year-old rapper went up against Meek Mill’s Championships, The Carter’s Everything Is Love, 2018 breakout star Ella Mai’s self-titled debut album and Travis Scott’s Astroworld.
After the show, TMZ caught up with Mary J. Blige as the R&B icon was leaving a restaurant later that night. The songstress appeared to be heading home for the night after celebrating with her close ones post slaying us all with her exemplary tribute performance.
The media outlet got the 411 straight from Mary. They stopped her to get her opinion on Cardi's win for the accolade and how she was feeling after receiving BET’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
Mary had nothing but love and support for her fellow Bronxite, from one icon to an icon in the making.
“She deserved that s**t,” the 48-year-old easily proclaimed without a doubt. “She’s amazing. God bless, Cardi.”
During the short conversation, the R&B icon also took some time to share one of her favorite moments from the whole three-hour affair.
“God bless you," the reporter followed up after asking her about Cardi's achievement. “I mean, you did such a good job. You were on fire. Did it mean a lot that Rihanna gave you your award?”
“It was the most amazing moment...really,” Mary shared before wishing the reporter a good night and hopping into her car.
BET sends its congratulations to Mary J. Blige and Cardi B!
