Posted Oct. 17, 2007 – No kidding! Vice-President Dick Cheney and Barack Obama are kin folks? That's what Cheney's wife says.

Lynne Cheney says her husband and the Illinois Democrat, who's hoping to win the White House in 2008, are eighth cousins.

Cheney says she found out about the bloodline while doing some family research for her husband's new book. Lynne Cheney, who calls the connection "amazing," says she traced a common ancestor of the two men to be a 17th-century immigrant from France.

A spokeswoman for Lynne Cheney says Obama is also distantly related to Mareen Duvall, whose son Samuel married the granddaughter of Dick Cheney's ancestor, also named Richard Cheney.

This is such an amazing American story that one ancestor... could be responsible down the family line for lives that have taken such different and varied paths," said Lynne Cheney.

So how is Obama's camp responding to the news?

Bill Burton, Obama's spokesman, says, "Every family has a black sheep.
