DL Hughley’s Eyebrow-Raising Comments About Bill Cosby And #MeToo Have Twitter Divided
Comedian D.L. Hughley has garnered quite the reputation for speaking his mind on several hot button topics, regardless of the magnitude of his polarizing views.
Most recently, he put this bold rep into practice when he shared his views on the #MeToo movement, claiming it is "disingenuous" while using Bill Cosby's sentencing as a point of reference.
In an interview with Profile by BuzzFeed News, Hughley explained that he doesn't see the #MeToo movement as valid as there are several other powerful men who remain unaffected by their efforts, unlike Cosby, who was reprimanded and brought to justice for his crime.
He expounded on the tweet he posted on September 25 that garnered major attention due to his bold views on convicted rapist Bill Cosby:
"I'm not saying that Bill Cosby shouldn't be in jail, but I'm saying he should have some company," he said on Profile. "If I was Bill Cosby, I'd start a #YallToo movement, and it would have Catholic priests, a Supreme Court justice, and the president."
He went on to claim in the interview that the movement has proven to be "fairly disingenuous" as people accused of sexual misconduct, like president Donald Trump and now confirmed Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, remain in their positions of power with slews of female supporters.
"52 percent of white women voted for a man they believed to be a sexual predator," he said in reference to Trump's women supporters. "It isn't that men don't believe women; it's that women don't believe women. Like, women will do better when they start believing in themselves."
He added one more bold comment aimed at accusers: "If you've been a victim, then the one thing you would have is a level of compassion, and you wouldn't be used as a pawn to make this other person look bad," he added.
