Who’s The G.O.A.T. Rap Crew? Wu-Tang Clan vs G.O.O.D. Music | Round 4

In the tournament to decide the greatest rap crew of all time, this semifinal battle is between the Wu-Tang and G.O.O.D. Music.

In recognition of hip hop’s 50th anniversary, BET Digital, in partnership with Ambrosia For Heads, is celebrating the culture by hosting a bracket-style competition that allows you to determine hip hop’s greatest crew.

Rather than having “experts” tell you who is the greatest of all time, this is your opportunity to collectively make that decision. After giving the opportunity to any and all fans to provide feedback on which crews should be included, 32 collectives from different regions, styles, and generations have been selected—all vying for that #1 spot. When the final battle is over and the last vote is cast, you will have determined who is your Greatest Rap Crew of All Time.

Round 4 marks the semifinal matchup between two crews that have worked together for over a decade. Wu-Tang Clan and G.O.O.D. Music are built around visionary producer leaders like RZA and Kanye West. In the mid-2000s, West and Ol’ Dirty Bastard cut at least one song together as Roc label-mates. Then, starting in 2010, these crews mingled on a deeper level when RZA and Raekwon worked extensively on ‘Ye’s “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” album alongside Kid Cudi, CyHi The Prynce, and others. Ghostface Killah landed on “Cruel Summer.” West and Pusha-T returned the favor with contributions to “The Man With The Iron Fists” soundtrack. These squads have evolved sonically over the years to maintain a dedicated fanbase. Wu-Tang’s list of defeats includes Ruff Ryders, Dreamville and Juice Crew during the last three rounds. G.O.O.D. defeated the Hypnotize Minds, Shady, and St. Lunatics to reach this stage. Among the final four to compete, only one of these two can reach the championship round.

In this celebration of hip hop and all of its talented crews, your vote decides the winner, so click the box below to vote now!

Defeated Juice Crew in Round 2

Defeated Ruff Ryders in Round 3

In the early 1990s, a band of rap outcasts united to take the sound of hip hop to a new frontier of ruggedness. Wu-Tang Clan is a nine-member core group that includes RZA, GZA, Method Man, Inspectah Deck, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Masta Killa, and U-God. However, the larger Wu-Tang family tree features branches such as Cappadonna, Killah Priest, Shyheim, and other lyricists and producers. This unit has shaped culture through classic albums, indelible songs, and one of the most recognizable brand logos of the last 30 years. A bonafide classic group debut in 1993, “Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers),” laid the foundation for Wu to win without chasing radio or trends.

Ensuing crew-driven albums, including Raekwon’s “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx..,” GZA’s “Liquid Swords,” and Ghostface’s “Ironman” are just some of the drops that achieved platinum plaques and critical praise. The success and acclaim were not exclusive to the core members, as evident in the gold certifications of Cappadonna’s “The Pillage” and Wu-Tang Killa Bees’ “The Swarm.” The Wu emphasized its depth and range on the platinum single and near-million-dollar video “Triumph.” Since the 2000s, Wu-Tang’s creative swords have remained sharp even during group hiatuses. This squad maintains an onslaught of crew-involved music and touring while taking its brand to new places, like telling its story on film and television. Through it all, for the last 30 years, Wu-Tang has never ceased bringing da’ ruckus.

G.O.O.D. Music

Defeated the St. Lunatics in Round 1

Defeated Shady in Round 2

Defeated Hypnotize Minds in Round 3

Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music crew shared a combined goal of Getting Out Our Dreams, and did just that. In addition to being a record label that has supplied albums by Big Sean, Pusha-T, Kid Cudi, Common, Consequence, and others, the crew includes talented acts from around the country, including 2 Chainz, CyHi The Prynce, Yasiin Bey (pka Mos Def), Desiigner, and more.

At the center of the action is a superstar producer/artist who has utilized the creative ensemble for nearly 20 years. From early rallying cries like “Grammy Family” to the six-times-platinum “Mercy” and “Don’t Like,” G.O.O.D. thrives off of crew energy. 2012’s “Cruel Summer” repped the brand in grand fashion. Through crew association and West’s oversight of albums, G.O.O.D. added new chapters to veterans Common and Pusha’s careers with Grammy-nominated albums in “Be” and “Daytona,” respectively.

The crew mentored would-be stars in Big Sean and Kid Cudi and regularly integrated them into collaborative work with the vets. West has co-produced several of Sean’s biggest hits, while Common narrated and guested on Cudi’s acclaimed debut. The crew members were integral to 2018’s summertime run of Kanye-produced projects recorded on retreat in Wyoming, including Pusha-T and a Kids See Ghosts collaboration between ‘Ye and Cudi. Though the cast has rotated periodically, through the years, G.O.O.D. artists have come together to achieve greatness.
